Influencers mislead young people with fake winnings from illegal casinos.

Not everything is what it seems

The Gaming Authority regularly sees influencers promoting illegal gambling companies via platforms such as TikTok, Instagram and YouTube. These prohibited videos paint a false picture: gambling is portrayed as nothing but fun, easy and profitable. This is incorrect and misleading. You can lose a lot of money quickly, and you cannot turn to illegal gambling companies if you get into trouble. Illegal gambling is also a criminal offence, as is advertising illegal gambling companies.

Fake winnings

Influencers often do not play with their own money in these videos. They receive bonus money or “fake playing credit” from illegal gambling companies, which is replenished indefinitely. This makes it appear as if they are winning all the time. Viewers are given the impression that it is normal to win, when in reality this is not the case at all.

Risks for players

If you decide to play at an illegal gambling company, which is prohibited, you are gambling with real money. This involves serious risks:

  • you can lose a lot of money quickly;
  • you have no guarantee that you will receive your money if you win;
  • you may be sharing private information (passport, bank account number, etc.) with a criminal party, and you do not know what they will do with your information;
  • You cannot turn to illegal gambling companies if things go wrong.

Illegal gambling companies do not comply with rules on age verification, betting limits and the prevention of gambling addiction.

Do not be misled

What you see online is not reality. Illegal gambling often leads to losing a lot of money and other problems. Do not be misled and do not gamble with illegal providers. In the Kansspelwijzer, you can see which providers are licensed by the Gaming Authority.
